The ASK instrument (Auroral Structure and Kinetics) is a narrowfield auroral imager, providing simultaneous images ofaurora in three different spectral bands at multiple frames persecond resolution. The three emission species studied areO2+ (5620 Å), O+ (7319 Å) andO (7774 Å). ASK was installed and operated forthe first time in an observational campaign on Svalbard, fromDecember 2005 to March 2006. The measurements were supported bydata from the Spectrographic Imaging Facility (SIF). The relationbetween the morphology and dynamics of the visible aurora and itsspectral characteristics is studied for selected events from thisperiod. In these events it is found that dynamic aurora is coupledto high energy electron precipitation. By studying theO2+/O intensity ratio we find that some auroralfilaments are caused by higher energy precipitation within regionsof lower energy precipitation, whereas other filaments are theresult of a higher particle flux compared to the surroundings
