We report multispacecraft Cluster observations of magneticreconnection at the high-latitude magnetopause/magnetosphericboundary layer (MP/BL) under mainly northward interplanetarymagnetic field (IMF) conditions. The event we study is on 3 December2001 when the Cluster spacecraft were skimming the high-latitudeduskside MP/BL during a period of about four hours. The orbit andconfiguration of the spacecraft were such that at least onesatellite was present in the MP/BL during most of that period. Wepresent the evidence of reconnection in the form of tangential stressbalance between the magnetosheath and the MP/BL (Wal\ue9n test) andin several cases in the form of transmitted magnetosheath ions inthe MP/BL and incident/reflected magnetosheath ions in themagnetosheath boundary layer (MSBL) . The observations areconsistent with magnetic reconnection occurring tailward of the cuspand going on continuously for a period of about four hours. Theobserved directions of the reconnection flows are consistent withthe IMF orientation, thus indicating that reconnection is globallycontrolled by the IMF. Observations of a few flow reversals suggestpassages of the spacecraft close to the X-line. The observation oflow magnetic shear across the magnetopause during a flow reversal isconsistent with component merging at least in one case. Theobservation of reconnection flows on the duskside magnetopauseirrespective of the change in the sign of the IMF <i>B<sub>Y</sub></i> alsosuggests a better agreement with the component merging model, thoughantiparallel merging cannot be excluded because the distance fromthe X-line is not known
