The abruptly recurving tropical cyclones over the WesternNorth Pacific Ocean Basin during El Ni\uf1o and La Ni\uf1a events arestudied. Temporal and spatial variations of these anomalous tracks underdifferent phases of ENSO are shown. The anomalies of the pressure field inrelation to ENSO circulation for the occurrence of the abruptly recurvingcyclone tracks are investigated using fuzzy method. These are supplementedby wind field analyses. It is found that the occurrence of recurving-left(RL) and recurving-right (RR) tropical cyclones under the modification ofthe steering currents, including the re-adjustment of the westerly trough,the expansion or contraction of the sub-tropical high pressure, theintensifying easterly flow and the strengthening of the cross-equatorialflow, can be in El Ni\uf1o or La Ni\uf1a events. Evidently, there is ahigher chance of occurrence of anomalous tropical cyclone trajectories in ElNi\uf1o rather than La Ni\uf1a events, but there is not any pronouncedspatial pattern of anomalous tropical cyclone tracks. By analyzing thepressure-field, it is seen RL (RR) tropical cyclones tend to occur when thesubtropical high pressure is weak (strong) in El Ni\uf1o and La Ni\uf1aevents. More importantly, how the internal force of tropical cycloneschanged by the steering current, which relies upon the relative location oftropical cyclones to the re-adjustment of the weather systems, shows whenand where RL and RR tropical cyclones occur in El Ni\uf1o and La Ni\uf1aevents
