A large set of ground-based multi-frequency microwave\udradiometric simulations and measurements during\uddifferent precipitation regimes are analysed. Simulations are\udperformed for a set of frequencies from 22 to 60 GHz, representing\udthe channels currently available on an operational\udground-based radiometric system. Results are illustrated in\udterms of comparisons between measurements and model data\udin order to show that the observed radiometric signatures can\udbe attributed to rainfall scattering and absorption. An inversion\udalgorithm has been developed, basing on the simulated\uddata, to retrieve rain rate from passive radiometric observations.\udAs a validation of the approach, we have analyzed radiometric\udmeasurements during rain events occurred in Boulder,\udColorado, and at the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement\ud(ARM) Program’s Southern Great Plains (SGP) site\udin Lamont, Oklahoma, USA, comparing rain rate estimates\udwith available simultaneous rain gauge data
