Several novel 1-[(1,4-benzodioxan-2-yl)carbonyl]piperazine derivs. were designed and the synthesis of the target compds. was achieved by a nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-carboxylic acid (benzodioxan-2-carboxylic acid) with various sulfonyl chlorides and acid chlorides.  The newly synthesized compds. were characterized by elemental anal., UV-visible, FT-IR, 1H NMR and LC-MS spectral studies.  All compds. were evaluated for their in-vitro antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activities.  4-(2-Trifluoromethyl)-benzenesulfonyl-1-(1,4-benzodioxan-2-carbonyl)piperazine exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against tested pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains [Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Xanthomonas campestris (leaf spot disease, bacterial plant pathogen), Fusarium oxysporum (fungal plant pathogen)].  4-(3-Methoxy)-benzoyl-1-(1,4-benzodioxan-2-carbonyl)piperazine showed moderate antioxidant activity compared to std. drug by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay method.  The target compds. thus formed included (2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-yl)[4-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1-piperazinyl]methanone (benzodioxin ketone piperazine sulfonamide analogs) and [4-[(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-yl)carbonyl]-1-piperazinyl](3-methoxyphenyl)methanone (benzodioxin ketone piperazine benzamide analogs).
