In today's society, permeated by the market-stimuli and diversity of product offerings, the study of consumer emotions has become an important line of research. Emotions influence how consumers perceive and interact with the items in your surroundings. Kansei Engineering (KE) is a methodology designed to facilitate the design of user-centered products. This proposal examines the Kansei Engineering as a research methodology in Design Senses for the furniture sector. Thus, research confronts, through visual assessment, the effect and sensory value industrial wood and plates and their meanings as perceived value of attractiveness. This study shows relevant as furniture designed from the standpoint of the design surface and serve a market increasingly demanding customers. Wooden panels have replaced the scarce and valuable hardwood in different uses, mainly for manufacturing furniture, and these need to finish enabling creative and daring in the production of prints, textures and reliefs through Surface Design projects. Besides physical form and functions, products assume "social order" and "symbolic function" when they enter the everyday. Colors, surfaces, textures, materials, and volumes are important elements that influence the visual perception of the object. The use of the elements that attract and delight the senses has proven to be a powerful tool to highlight and promote customer satisfaction and user of a product. Thus, it is possible to establish a strategy to design from the perspective of Emotional Design, by its growing importance in the field of Design. Through the examination of sensory aspects of the surface of selected hardwoods and their scores with visual indicators, interpretations of formal meanings for application in production of customized furniture coating materials will be studied. Through the application of Kansei Engineering methodology as sensory study proposed here, relationships meanings of comprehension tests, achieving values and perceived importance of the surface of the wood sample attributes will be formulated. The purpose of the paper is to present the definitions and assumptions of Kansei Engineering, methods and techniques, and establish potential for application in Design Senses in formulating surfaces of furniture is highly attractive. Line of research: Design, Materials, Process and Technology.
