We are able toforecast the energetic loss of a graduaI sinusoïdal swell thanks to the knowledge of the permeability and to the thickness of the considered sedimentory layer (sand or gravelly sand), if The substratum is perjectly impermeable. We will thereafter introduce a method of modelisation of the induced circulation offluid in the sedimentory layer of afinite thickness. The circulation of jluid, which results Jrom the action of the sweli on the watersediment limit has been studied. The DARCY laws, which take into account the mate rial anisotropy effect, the incompressibility of fluid and the nondefonnability of the consolidated strUCturehave been consideredfor the study. We can notice that the continuity equation and the conditions on limits have led us to introduce a computation method, which is derived from the Stokes methods applied for a swell in finite depth. The velocity potential function has been substitued by a pressure function, and the solution has been established ln theform of a separated variables expression which yields to study: the velo city distribution ln the sediment, the description of the trajectory of partieles and the relationship between the vertical and horizontal pressure gradient. The attenuationfactor of the swell has been determined. ln addition to the relevance of permeability ln the swell propagation, other applications have been considered : fluidisation of solid partie/es thanks to the upflow and scattering ofpolluants in the sediment.
