The design of simple structures as a sheet-pile wall or a diaphragm wall anchored by one or several tie-rods is nowadays easily possible through elastoplastic calculation methods. But the design of a double sheet-pile wall is much more difficult. During the achievement of new container benh quai des Amériques, Port of Le Havre Autorithy decided '0 carry out tests in the eastern end of the berth where the strUCtureis a double sheet-pile wall. For that purpûse, the sheer~pileswere equiped with inclir.ometers and the rie-rads were equiped with strain-gauges in order to record the dejlections in the sheet piles and the stresses in the ne-rads. Though many of the equipements were damaged, it is obvious that the experimental results aïe far from the figures given by computerized calculation method. It is the aim of Port of Le Havre Authoriry to go trJough the study using a computerized calcularion method based on the recorded dejlection of the rear sheet-pile wall wich looles reliable. Provided lhat such new simulation would meet the stresses measured on xie-rads, a new simple method to design double sheet pile wall could be proposed by Pan of Le Havre Authority.
