Transmission  Control  Protocol  (TCP)  is  a  connection\ud  oriented  end-end  reliable  byte  stream \udtransport  layer  protocol.  It  is  widely  used  in  the \udInternet.TCP  is  fine  tuned  to  perform  well  in \udwired  networks. However  the  performance  degrades  in\ud mobile  ad hoc  networks. This  is  due to \udthe characteristics specific to  wireless  networks, \udsuch as signal fading, mobility, unavailability \udof  routes. This leads  to loss of  packets which may \udarise either  from  congestion or due  to other \udnon-congestion events. However TCP assumes every lo\udss as loss due to congestion and invokes \udthe congestion control procedures. TCP reduces cong\udestion window in response, causing unne-\udcessary  degradation  in  throughput.  In  mobile  ad  hoc\ud  networks  multi-hop  path  forwarding  fur-\udther worsens the packet loss and throughput. To und\uderstand the TCP behavior and improve the \udTCP performance over mobile ad hoc networks conside\udrable research has been carried out. As \udthe research is still active in this area a compreh\udensive and in-depth study on the TCP through-\udput and the various parameters that degrade the per\udformance of TCP have been  analyzed. The \udanalysis is done using simulations in Qualnet 5.
