Professor Uri Banin holds the Alfred & Erica Larisch Memorial Chair at the Institute of Chemistry and the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU). Banin obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry (Magna Cum Laude, 1995) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and performed his postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley (1994-97). He was the founding director of the HU Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2001–2010) and is a founder of Qlight Nanotech that developed colloidal quantum materials for display applications, and was acquired by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. His research focuses on the chemistry and physics of nanocrystals including synthesis of nanoparticles, sizeand shape-dependent properties, and emerging applications in displays, lighting, solar energy harvesting, 3D printing, electronics, and biology.
