近年、デジタル シネマや放送 ・通信分野での 立体映像 の実用化 が進 め られているが、依然 と してコンテ ンツの不足が指摘 されている。立体 映像 コンテンツの特徴 として、その視差量が、 視距離や呈示面サイズの影響 を受 けて変化する ことがあげられる。具体的には、同一のコンテ ンツであって も、視距離を短縮 した場 合、ある いは呈示面を拡大 した場 合には、視差量が増大 し、観察者へ与える負担の上昇が懸念 され る。 視距離の短縮 もしくは呈示面の縮小の場合 は、 再生位置の変化 によ り平面映像 に近づ き、立体 映像 に特有の魅力の低減 が予想 される。そのた め、立体映像 コンテンツの制作にあたって は、 視環境 を事前に想定 して、撮影 ・生成条件を設 計す ることが求め られ る。同時に、多様 な視環 境 での呈示 においては、視距離や呈示面サイズ に応 じた補正が必要 となる。
