Sleep health is very important in daily life. People with sleep disorders are reported as having higher risk for the loss of concentration, traffic accidents while driving. Checking one’s day-to-day sleep has become very important. Since the body movement during sleep has a certain relationship with mental and physical fatigue or stress in daytime, we pay attention to the body movement as the index of sleep assessment and propose new method to detect body movement during sleep by using difference image processing. To verify the validity of this method, we compared the body movement calculated by our method and heart rate as reference data. A subject performed six nights’ experiment of recording the body movement both with the video system and the heart rate. The result showed that the body movement calculated by the video image expressed successfully match to the heart rate change.
