Se presentan nuevos datos mineralógicos, sedimentológlcos, y micropaleontológlcos de las sedimentitas de las formaciones Jagüel (Maastrichtiano Tardío-Daniano temprano) y Roca (Daniano), en el sector oriental del lago Pellegrini, provincia de Río Negro, República Argentina. En función de las características físicas de las sedimentitas que integran estas formaciones y su edad, se definieron dos litofacies siliciclásticas y una litofacies carbonática: litofacies de fangolitas calcáreas amarillas grisáceas maastrichtianas, litofacies de fangolitas calcáreas gris oliva claro danianas y litofacies de rocas carbonáticas danianas. Las rocas pertenecientes a las litofacies siliciclásticas, que constituyen la mayor parte de los perfiles estudiados, se clasificaron como fangolitas aloquímicas y están constituidas principalmente por argilominerales y, en menor proporción, por calcita. La asociación de minerales arcillosos se encuentra dominada por un interestratificado illita/esmectita (I/S) tipo R0 (70-90% Sm) acompañado por proporciones menores de illita y caolinita. La mineralogía y microfábrica de las fangolitas reflejan que los sedimentos no habrían sido modificados significativamente por diagénesis. Los minerales arcillosos serían de origen detrítico y el predominio del I/S altamente esmectítico a lo largo de todas las secciones estaría asociado al vulcanismo activo existente en el arco magmático situado al oeste de la Cuenca Neuquina, durante el Cretácico Tardío y Paleoceno. El análisis micropaleontológico de las litofacies definidas confirmó la presencia del límite Cretácico-Paleógeno (K/P) en las sedimentitas de la Formación Jagüel. Los nanofósiles calcáreos hallados permitieron establecer una correspondencia entre edades y tipos de asociaciones mineralógicas. De esta manera, fue posible detectar que en posiciones estratigráficas próximas al límite K/P existe un incremento de caolinita (>10%) que disminuye hacia posiciones más altas del Daniano, lo cual podría indicar un clima cálido y más húmedo en este intervalo, que tendería a condiciones menos húmedas y estacionales hacia el Daniano tardío. Las asociaciones de nanofósiles calcáreos maastrichtianos sugerirían la existencia de ambientes oligotróficos con buena estratificación de la capa fótica, aunque en algunos niveles la nanoflora es abundante y con menor riqueza específica, lo que indica condiciones marinas más restringidas. This study presents new mineralogical, sedimentologi-cal, and micropaleontological data from the Jagüel (Late Maastrichtian-Early Danian) and Roca (Danian) formations, located in the eastern sector of Pellegrini Lake, Río Negro province, República Argentina. According to the physical characteristics and the age of the sediments that conform these formations, two siliciclastic lithofacies and a carbonate one were recognized, they are named: Maastrichtian grayish yellow calcareous mudstones, Danian olive gray calcareous mudstones, and Danian carbonates. The rocks which constitutes siliciclastic lithofacies were classified as allochemical mudstones and the mineralogy is characterized by high proportions of clay minerals and, to a lesser extent, calcite. The clay mineral association is dominated by a random (R0) I/S mixed-layers (70-90% Sm) accompanied by lower proportions of illite and kaolinite. The mineralogy and the microfabric of the mudstones reflect that these sediments have not been affected significantly by diagenesis. Clay minerals would be of detrital origin and the predominance of the highly smectitic I/S along all sections would be associated with an active volcanism coming from the western magmatic arc, located in the Neuquén Basin during the Late Cretaceous and Paleocene. Micropalaeontological analyses confirmed the presence of Cretaceous-Paleogene transition in the Jagüel Formation beds. The calcareous nannofossils allowed to relate changes in the the mineralogical associations along the K/P transition. In this way, it was possible to detect an increase in kaolinite content close to the K/P boundary (>10%), that decreases towards higher positions of the Danian, which could indicate a warmer and wetter climate during this interval, that it would tend to be drier with seasonal conditions in the late Danian. The Maastrichtian calcareous nannofossil assemblages suggest oligotrophic environments and a well stratified photic zone, nevertheless, in some horizons, the nannoflora is abundant with lower richness which would indicate more restricted marine conditions
