The hydroboration reaction of electronically unsatur­ ated tri-osmium carbonyl cluster (|1-H)2Os3(CO)10 has been intensively studied.1,2 The first example of tri-osmium borylidyne cluster (g-H)3Os3(CO)9(g3-BCO) was described by Shore and his coworkers.3 The cluster was prepared in the reaction of (|_i-H)2Os3(CO)10 with B2H6 in the presence of O(CH3)2. Meanwhile, (|i-H)2Os3(CO)10 reacted with B2H6 in the presence of THF to produce [(|i-H)3Os3(CO)9(|i3-C-)]3[O3B3O3]. More recently, another tri-osmium borylidyne clus­ ter (|1-H)2Os3(CO)9(|1-H)2BH was prepared in the reac­ tion (|X-H)2Os3(CO)10 with BH3S(CH3)2.4 Those difeent products encouraged to study various hydrobora­ tion reactions of (|1-H)2Os3(CO)10 and the reaction mechanisms. Reported here are results of reactions of (g-H)2Os3 (CO)io wilh various borane conplexes BH3 L (L=O (CHg* THF, N(CH)3, N(GH5)3, Pyridine, S(CH3)2, P(C4H9)3, PPh3) and the reaction pathways proposed.
