Background: The extraction socket preservation techniqueconserves the alveolar architecture and prevents hard and softtissue collapse that minimizes the necessity for futureaugmentation procedures. Also, considerable interest hasrecently emerged over the potential benefits of using plateletrich fibrin (PRF), a highly concentrated form of platelets powerpacked with growth factors encased in a leukocyte rich matrixthat enhances osteogenic differentiation and bone repair. Thisarticle describes the currently improved technique utilizingalloplasts with autologous PRF to be implemented for preservinga future implant site.Materials and methods: Following the atraumatic extractionof the periodontally compromised tooth, the socket bony wallswere debrided and decorticated to facilitate regional acceleratoryphenomenon. Venous blood was drawn from the antecubitalfossa of the patient and was centrifuged according toChoukroun’s method to yield autologous PRF that was mincedinto uniformly sized bits. Except for 2 to 3 mm of the coronalaspect of the socket, the rest was filled with particles of a slowlyresorbing bone substitute material mixed homogeneously withminced PRF. A collagen membrane was used to seal the coronalend of the socket and was stabilized using 3-0 black braidedsilk sutures.Results: Clinically and radiographically satisfactory andsuccessful regeneration of the deficient ridge’s hard and softtissues was demonstrated after 6 months post therapy.Conclusion: Socket preservation surgery utilizing bioceramicsand PRF is an effective procedure for posterior socketpreservation coupled with rapid healing and aids in providingsound bone quality for successful implant placement.
