Fascin is an actin-bundling protein that is expressed by dendritic cells of the lymphoid tissue. Fascin expression is also seen in the neoplastic cells of classical Hodgkin lymphomas, nearly half of the anaplastic lymphomas and in some diffuse large B-cell lympho- mas. We aimed to investigate the clinical significance of fascin expression in CD20 positive diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) in patients treated with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone plus rituximab (R-CHOP). Thirtyfour of the 55 patients included in the study showed fascin expression, 16 of them being diffuse and strong. There was no statistically significant correlation between fascin expression and overall survival and disease-free survival, sex, disease stage, chemotherapy response, whether or not having bulky disease, extranodal involvement, and international prognostic index (IPI) score. The study has failed to show prognostic significance of fascin expression in DLBCL patients treated with R-CHOP. However, because of the alterations in fascin expression in a variety of benign and malignant lymphoid entities, regardless of its prognostic impact, studies on fascin exp- ression may help us to understand tumor biology of lymphomas better. oplastik hucrelerinin, anaplastik lenfomalar›n yaklafl›k yar›s›n›n ve diffuz buyuk B-hucreli lenfomalar›n bir k›sm›n›n da fascin eksprese ettii gosterilmifltir. Bu cal›flman›n amac›, siklofosfamid, doksorubisin, vinkristin, prednizolon ile birlikte rituksimab (R-CHOP) tedavisi alan CD20 pozitif diffuz buyuk B-hucreli lenfomal› (DBBHL) hastalarda fascin ekspresyonunun klinik onemi olup olmad›¤›n› ortaya koy- makt›r. Cal›flmaya dahil edilen 55 hastaya ait tumor orneklerinin 34'unde immunhistokimyasal yontemle fascin pozitiflii saptand›. Otuzdort vakan›n 16's›ndaki pozitiflik yayg›n ve kuvvetli idi. ‹statistiksel deerlendirmede fascin ekspresyonu ile toplam yaflam sure- si, hastal›ks›z yaflam suresi, cinsiyet, hastal›¤›n evresi, kemoterapiye yan›t, bulky hastal›k olup olmamas›, ekstranodal tutulum ve en- ternasyonal prognostik indeks (IPI) skoru aras›nda anlaml› bir iliflki saptanmad›. Cal›flmada R-CHOP tedavisi alan DBBHL'l› hastalar- da fascin ekspresyonun prognostik onemi olduuna dair bulgu saptanmam›flt›r. Farkl› benign ve malign lenfoid antitelerde fascin ekspresyonunda bildirilen deifliklikler ve ayn› hastal›¤a sahip hastalarda saptanan ekspresyon farkl›l›klar›, prognostik onemi olmasa da, fascin uzerine yap›lacak cal›flmalar›n lenfomalar›n tumor biyolojisini daha iyi anlamam›za yard›mc› olaca¤›n› duflundurmektedir.
