A new bacterial strain named as AGR/IICT/4 was isolated from agas phase biofilter treating triethylamine (TEA) and it was used for understandingthe removal pattern of TEA in designed synthetic and industrial wastewater. The strain was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa based on biochemical and 16SrRNA gene sequence analysis.Parameters affecting biodegradation of TEA were selected based on conventional approach as well as statistical analysis (full factorial design and central composite design model). It was observed that initial TEA concentration, temperature and pH are the key controllingfactorsand Pseudomonasaeruginosa, could completely degrade 300mg/Lof TEA to ammonia in 60hrat a pH of 7.5 and temperature of 31°C. Thestrain could also effectively degrade diethyl amine, ethylamineand amine to ammonia as final product, which were identifiedas intermediates in aqueous medium. Maximummono oxygenase activity of 315.29 U/mg was observed under optimized conditions.
