Resumo A depressao se caracteriza pela ocorrencia de varios sintomas, entre os sintomas psiquicos, a sensacao de tristeza, menos valia, sentimento de culpa, a perda de prazer para realizar as atividades de rotina, a fadiga, e a dificuldade de concentracao. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o uso da tecnica de pintura de mandalas para reduzir sintomas de depressao em idosos de um programa de atendimento de Terapia Ocupacional Em relacao a metodologia, a coleta de dados foi realizada no periodo de julho de 2015 a outubro de 2016, em uma unidade basica de saude, localizada no interior de Sao Paulo, com 4 idosos do genero feminino com idade superior a 60 (sessenta) anos. Os criterios de inclusao foram, idade superior a 60 anos, com diagnostico medico de depressao, apresentando sintomas de depressao que foram confirmados atraves da escala de depressao geriatrica e a participacao obrigatoria no programa de Terapia Ocupacional baseado no uso do recurso da pintura de mandalas. Os criterios de exclusao foram presenca de comorbidades psiquiatricas, comprometimento visual que nao se resolvesse com uso de tecnologia assistiva, oculos, falta de interesse nas atividades de pintura, e estar envolvido em qualquer outro tipo de tratamento e/ou atividade que proporcionem a diminuicao dos sintomas referidos. Os resultados obtidos evidenciaram que a atividade artistica e um recurso terapeutico eficaz, mesmo com o numero reduzido da amostra. O protocolo com a pintura de mandalas diminuiu os sintomas depressivos em idosos, favorecendo o desempenho na execucao das atividades de vida diaria, a autonomia e a independencia dos idosos desta pesquisa. Abstract Depression is characterized by the occurrence of various symptoms, including psychic symptoms, feelings of sadness, loss of feeling, guilt, loss of pleasure to perform routine activities, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of the mandalas painting technique to reduce depression symptoms in the elderly of an Occupational Therapy care program. In relation to the methodology, data collection was performed from July 2015 to October 2016 , in a basic health unit, located in the interior of Sao Paulo, with 4 elderly women of the female gender older than 60 (sixty) years. Inclusion criteria were age over 60 years, with medical diagnosis of depression, presenting symptoms of depression that were confirmed through the geriatric depression scale and compulsory participation in the Occupational Therapy program based on the use of mandalas painting. Exclusion criteria were presence of psychiatric comorbidities, visual impairment that could not be resolved with the use of assistive technology, glasses, lack of interest in painting activities, and being involved in any other type of treatment and / or activity that symptoms. The results showed that artistic activity is an effective therapeutic resource, even with a small sample. The protocol with the painting of mandalas decreased the depressive symptoms in the elderly, favoring the performance in the activities of daily living, autonomy and independence of the elderly of this research.
