タカ菜漬より分離したフェオホーバイドaの光力学的作用の機構を明らかにするため, ローズベンガルと対比して白ネズミの光過敏症, アミノ酸, 脂肪酸の光分解等について検討した。1) フェオホーバイドaを白ネズミに投与し光を照射すると強い致死効果がみられたが, ローズベンガルを投与した白ネズミは光照射後1週間目に脱毛, 皮膚の壊死等の後遺症がみられた。2) アミノ酸溶液 (トリプトファン, システインを除く17種のアミノ酸) にローズベンガルを添加し, 光照射すると, ヒスチジン, メチオニン, シスチン, チロシンの分解がみられるが, フェオホーバイドaではいずれのアミノ酸も分解されなかった。3) 脂肪酸にフェオホーバイドaを加え, 光を照射すると不飽和脂肪酸であるリノレン酸 (C18: 3), リノール酸 (C18: 2), オレイン酸 (C18: 1) の分解がみられた。 しかし, ローズベンガルによるこれら脂肪酸の分解はみられなかった。
