マウスの消化管内に存在する微生物とその関連物質由来の純タンパク質が, 糞乾物中にどの程度含まれているかを調べた。窒素源として精製全卵タンパク質または精製全卵タンパク質と同じアミノ酸組成をもつ結晶アミノ酸混合物を用い, 両者が同じ窒素含有量になるように飼料を調製した。これら2種類の飼料を5週齢でオスのICR系普通および無菌マウスに3週間摂取させた。最後の1週間分の糞について, その乾物中に占ある純タンパク質 (糞中のタンパク態窒素量×6.25) の割合に基づき, 普通と無菌マウスとの間ならびに飼料間での比較を行なった。その結果, 消化管内微生物とこれの関連物質由来の純タンパク質量は精製全卵タンパク質飼料群で糞乾物中の0.94%, 結晶アミノ酸混合物飼料群では2.18%, はく離した消化管上皮および消化液由来のタンパク質量は5.1%, 未消化の飼料残渣由来のタンパク質量は1.23%の成績を得た。
