tract\udA numerical simulation to simulate the fluid flow inside a BOF hood of the ArcelorMittal Tubarão converters is\udperformed. Motivated by the historical failure due to wear in the walls of the hood the objective of the present work is to\udunderstand the flow structure, so that it can reduce wear rates. For this study a Computational Fluid Dynamics software\udANSYS CFX II is used. The results show that there are basically two mechanisms of wear in the hoods: (i) erosion due\udthe projection of the particulate material at high speed in the posterior wall of the output curve of the hood; (ii) abrasion\uddue the falling down of the heavier particulate in the opposite direction to the flow in the region of low speed in the slope\udof the hoo
