Crop irrigation with treated sewage effluent (TSE) is an interesting and attractive practice, when applied in a controlled manner and recently is an issue that concerns the society. To evaluate the potential of this reuse practice a field experiment was designed with surplus irrigation of a Tifton 85 pasture (Cynodon dactylon Pers. X C. niemfuensis Vanderyst) with TSE. The experiment was installed next to the sewage treatment plant from Sabesp, at Lins district, SP, during 18 months. The TSE irrigation increased the soil microbial carbon and the soil C:N ratio, during the experimental period. Despite no statistical differences among the treatments was observed for the soil microbial activity attributes, like soil respiration and qCO 2 , the effluent irrigation improved soil microbial activity. The use of up to 100% suplus TSE irrigation showed suitable to supply nutrients to the pasture, especially nitrogen, considering the 18 months of irrigation.
