Objective: A study was carried out to determine the influence of the breeding system on the reproduction of the local hen in Cote d'Ivoire. Methodology and results: In this study, 32 hens were maintained in a semi intensive system and 32 other hens were kept in traditional systems (extensive system) in the village and used as control. The hens incubated their eggs and brood their kids until weaning. In the semi-intensive system, the average number of eggs laid was 87.69 while, in the extensive system it was only 41.41. The average number of production cycles was respectively 5.82 in semi-intensive system and 3.20 in extensive system. In the semi-intensive system, hen produces 64.73 chickens per year while, in the extensive system one hen produces only 28.95 chickens per year with 56.50 and 16.32 chickens wean respectively. Conclusion and application: The productivity of local hens was significantly improved (112%) in the semiintensive system. In this system, the number of eggs produce (87 eggs) was twice the production recorded in the extensive system 41.41 eggs).
