Availability of preys, within time and space, and their quality influence stability of sit-and-wait predators as antlion larvae (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae), in favourable habitats. Conditions that enhance presence and abundance of prey also characterise the favourable habitat which, in the high Guinean savannahs of the Adamaoua in Cameroon, is throughout the year the shaded area for the larvae of Myrmeleon quinquemaculatus Hagen 1853. Considering the great seasonal variability of the flora and fauna of the study area, the present research aimed at establishing the range of prey of the larvae of M. quinquemaculatus and their annual fluctuations. Once a month, from July 2018 to June 2019, pitfall traps were used to capture terrestrial animals in antlion larval habitats. Following the capture of these potential preys, the effectiveness of their predation was I. DJIBO et al. / Int. J. Biol. Chem. Sci. 14(2): 465-472, 2020 466 analysed by observing the predation behaviour of all these captured animals. The prey range of M. quinquemaculatus larvae in this habitat consists essentially of Arthropods (Arachnids, Crustaceans, Insects and Myriapods), 85.97% of them being Hymenoptera. Analysis of prey-predator population dynamics throughout a year shown that predation is more efficient during the dry season due to the abundance of prey.
