Although generic medical materials are often used, limited information is available. Aim of this study is to evaluate safety and economy of absorbable synthetic suture with needle B (B) as generic medical materials. Sample evaluation showed that average scores of B is located in the middle of good and accepted and B was adopted. Absorbable synthetic suture with needle A (A) which started previously was reduced the price and became the continuation adoption. Estimated reduction was 11 million yen. Reduction = ∑ (∑ A + ∑ B) ; ∑ = original price of A x (use number of A + B), ∑ A= price of A x (use number of A), ∑ B = price of B x (use number of B). From the hospital incident reporting system, 18 cases which related needle or thread were extracted. There were two incident reports about A, and no report about B. There was much number of the use of heavy thread B in abdominal closure. Our results show that it is possible to evaluate safety and economy of generic medical materials by analyzing the user’s sample check and actual use in absorbable synthetic suture with needle.
