1997年6月から1998年10月までに東京慈恵会医科大学付属病院眼科および神奈川リハビリテーション病院眼科において、頭蓋内疾患による同名半盲と診断され、両眼とも視力の良好であった76症例(男性58名、女性18名)にプリズムカバーテストによる遠見眼位と近見眼位の測定を施行した。その結果、遠見時および近見時ともに右同名半盲より左同名半盲において統計学的に有意に外斜視が多かった。また、頭蓋内疾患発症後の1年未満に初回の眼位検査のできた18症例(男性15名、女性3名)の、時間経過による眼位変化について検討したところ、遠見時の眼位に変化はみられなかったが、近見時の眼位では外方に偏位する傾向が認められた。さらに、斜視症例における半盲側と固視眼との関係について検討したところ、半盲側による固視眼の選択に左右差が認められた。半盲側によって、外斜視の有病率、固視眼の選択に差があったことから、眼位を維持する脳内機構には、機能局在があることが推察された。
