38例の低視力者に近見補助具として拡大鏡の処方を試みた。処方が可能であったのは34例で,その近見視力は0.010.5,視野は中心暗点のある者12例,傍中心暗点のある者9例であった。比較的視機能の良好な者は,拡大鏡使用によって新聞を読むことができた。視機能の不良な者も,残存視機能を活用することで僅かながらでも不便さを解消できた。また,処方後の使用状況は,調査できた32例中,毎日使用している者は22例,一週間に数回使用する者は3例,ほとんど使用していない者は7例であった。使用していない例は,比較的視機能の良好な者から不良の者までばらついていた。拡大鏡活用には,残存視機能の程度だけではなく必要性や意欲も影響すると考えられた。たとえ視機能が不良でも,積極的に処方していくことが望まれる。
