The purpose of this paper is to seek a connection between noncommutativegeometry, an offshoot of string theory, and certain aspects of dark matter anddark energy. The former case is based on a simple mathematical argument showingthat the main manifestation of dark matter in connection with flat rotationcurves in galaxies and clusters of galaxies is also a consequence ofnoncommutative geometry. The latter case requires an examination of the localeffect of noncommutative geometry and the subsequent extension to the globalphenomenon of an accelerating Universe.
