Waterproof/moisture-permeable nylon fabrics were prepared by wet-coagulation process blending various ratios of polyester type polyurethane (PU) and polytetramethylene ether/ester copolymer type polyurethane (PTGPU) with different molecular weight in place of PU and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) combination in the previous report, and their sturctures of cross-section and their water transporting properties were investigated.PU/PTGPU ratio was adjusted in a limited range taking degree of polymerization of PTGPU into account.The fabrics consist of three layers : (1) Inner surface which comes into contact with wearer's skin has hydrophobidc micro-networks resulting from concentration gradient of PTGPU. (2) Intermediate porous layer of PU rich is rather hydrophilic compared with PTGPU and useful for moisture transportation. (3) Outer surface composed of hydrophobic nylon fabric.Moisture permeability, dewdrops coagulation, and waterproof, which have a correlation with water transporting properties, were found to be improved with growing the three layer structure. This fact suggests possibility of developing more comfortable fabrics suitable for sportswear, etc.
