Effects of pre-treatments and catalysts-application methods on formaldehyde cross-linking density in cotton fibers finished with vapor-phase-formaldehyde were studied.Cotton fibers were pre-treated with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, liquid ammonia and their combination.For vapor-phase-formaldehyde-finishing, two kinds of catalysts application methods were examined.One is MgC12 with aqueous solution and the other is SO2 gas.It was found that the degree of formaldehyde cross-linkig in vapor-phase-formaldehyde treated cotton fibers depends on the initial moisture regain for MgC12 solution system, while depends on both initial moisture regain and pre-treated method for SO2 gas system.
