Influence of spray and drying process of coating liquid onto the properties of coated films were investigated by using three types of fluidized bed coaters. Top spray method with the conventional fluidized bed coater was ineffective to produce small amounts of coated particles for controlled release of drug. Both smooth surface of coated particles and high adhesion efficiency were obtained by using side spray method in fluidized bed coater with a rotary disk. It is concluded that the concentration of coating materials in the liquid layer on coated particles plays an important role in determining physical properties of the coating film.
