日本水文科学会が設立されてから26年が経過しこの四半世紀の間にその研究方向もまた学問に対する社会的要請も大きく変わりつつある。本稿では日本水文科学会の設立経緯を簡単に振り返るとともに科学と社会に係わる最近における世界の動向を踏まえこれから水文科学が目指す方向性について言及した。2013年から2022年までの今後10年間における新たな研究の枠組みとしてICSUとISSCを中心とした国際学術組織等によって"Future Earth"が立ち上げられIAHSはNew Scientific Decade 2013-2022として"Panta Rhei-Everything Flows"を立ち上げた。またGEFとUNESCO-IHPを中心とした新たな国際プロジェクトである"Groundwater Governance"が進行中である。これらの世界の動向からは従来の「科学のための科学」から科学人間・社会系の関係性を重視した「社会のための科学」を確立する必要性があることを読み取ることができる。今水文科学に求められていることはこれら世界の動向に対処するための「新たな知」の創出とそのための方法論の確立であることを記した。It has been passed 26 years after the establishment of Japanese Association of Hydrological Sciences, and research directions and social demands for scientific researches have changed largely during this quarter-century. The paper mentions the desired direction of the hydrologic science in a future according to the recent world trends regarding the relationship of the science and society as well as describing the history of the establishment of Japanese Association of Hydrological Sciences briefly. As a new scientific research framework for foreseeable 10 years from 2013 to 2022, ICSU and ISSC have established the "Future Earth" and IAHS the "Panta Rhei-Everything Flows" as the IAHS Scientific Decade 2013-2022. The international project on "Groundwater Governance" programmed by GEF, UNESCO-IHP and other international organizations is now implementing. From those world tendencies, it can be recognized that it is necessary the establishment of the "Science for Society" which takes a serious view of the relation between the science and human-society systems instead of former the "Science for Science". It was mentioned that now clamed for the hydrologic science is to create a "new wisdom" and to establish its methodology coping with a today\u27s trend of the world
