espanolEl ciclo de expansion del salitre suele enmarcarse entre 1880 y 1930, sin embargo, no existen suficientes argumentos, mas alla de la incorporacion en 1880 de Tarapaca, la principal provincia salitrera, al Estado-Nacional y que, en 1930, la crisis de la Gran Depresion tuvo un impacto profundo en esta economia. Aqui, a partir de un analisis de la propia industria salitrera, se proponen otros momentos de inflexion para el despegue definitivo de la economia salitrera y para su termino, los que serian 1872 y 1919, respectivamente. Tambien se propone una critica al nacionalismo metodologico que ha imperado en las perspectivas peruana y chilena en el estudio de la economia y sociedad del salitre. EnglishThe nitrate expansion cycle is usually placed between 1880 and 1930, however, there are not enough arguments, beyond the incorporation in 1880 of Tarapaca, the main nitrate province, to the nation-state and that, in 1930, the Great Depression had a deep impact on this economy. Here, since an analysis of the nitrate industry itself, other moments of inflection are proposed for the nitrate economy to leave definitely and for its end that would be 1872 and 1919, respectively. A critique of methodological nationalism is also proposed that has prevailed in the Peruvian and Chilean perspectives in the study of nitrate economy and society.
