Bajo el rotulo ‘Vaquerias’ se conoce la primera ceramica policroma del Noroeste Argentino, ampliamente dispersa pero siempre exigua y tradicionalmente definida como un bien de alto valor simbolico. Se presentan en esta oportunidad los resultados del analisis tecnologicoestilistico sobre los materiales ‘Vaquerias’ procedentes de los sitios Cardonal y Bordo Marcial (Catamarca, Argentina) y se evalua su presencia dentro de un contexto domestico aldeano del 100 DC. Esta nueva evidencia, resultado de los estudios arqueometricos integrados al analisis del diseno, ha permitido ampliar el conocimiento de los objetos ‘Vaquerias’ y evaluar la produccion, circulacion y consumo de estos bienes como practicas sociales significativas. Palabras claves: petrografia - morfologia - iconografia. Abstract The label ‘Vaquerias’ is used to describe the first polychrome pottery of northwestern Argentina. This pottery presents a wide geographical dispersion but low frequencies, and was defined traditionally as a style of great symbolic value. Here, we present the results of technological and stylistic analyses of the ‘Vaquerias’ materials from the sites Cardonal and Bordo Marcial (Catamarca, Argentina) and we evaluate its presence within a 100 AD domestic village context. These new descriptions, which result from the combination of archaeometric and design analysis, expands our knowledge about ‘Vaquerias’ objects and allows the evaluation of these goods’ production, circulation and consumption as meaningful socials practices.
