Indexación: Scielo.Nuestro objetivo es demostrar que el fragmento narrativo “Noche cuatro” de Umbral de Juan Emar es una alegoría de los orígenes del ser de la nación. Este fragmento construye una comunidad lectora –el cronotopo del salón de lectura– que se reúne a escuchar y opinar sobre el relato “La Virgen de la Hortaliza”, el cual despliega una reflexión crítica sobre las matrices genealógicas de lo nacional. Estas matrices son los ideologemas de la beatería y la patriotería, las que funcionan en la diégesis como constructoras de estereotipos grotescos de subjetividad ciudadana. Este fragmento muestra la derrota de la configuración de la nación inserta dentro del proyecto de confraternidad entre las naciones latinoamericanas (El sueño bolivariano). En el caso específico de Chile, Emar carnavaliza en la “Noche cuatro” los avatares de la alianza entre Iglesia y Estado.Our goal is to demonstrate that the narrative fragment "Noche cuatro" (Night four) in Umbral by Juan Emar is an allegory of the origins of the nation. The fragment built a reading community -the chronotope of the reading room- who meets to listen and comment on the story "La Virgen de la Hortaliza" (The Virgen of Vegetables), story that deploys a critical reflection on the national genealogical matrices. These matrices are ideologemes of bigotry and chauvinism, which at the same time operate in the diegesis as builders of grotesque stereotypes of citizen subjectivity. This fragment shows the defeat of the configuration of the nation inserted into the proyect of fellowship among Latin American nations (Bolivarian dream). In the specific case of Chile, Emar carnivalizes in "Noche cuatro" (Night four) the avatars of the alliance between Church and State
