. This paper describes the behavior of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) beams submitted to torsion. The aim of the research was to understand the mechanism of rupture and how the short fibers add to the torsional resistance. Therefore, 12 FRC beams elements, in a 1% to 3% steel and polypropylene rate dosage in relation to cement mass, were tested. The concrete also had its properties evaluated through axial compression and tension by diametral-compression tests. The results obtained show that the fibers contained in the concrete contributed to the beams torsional resistance after the first fissure appearance, resulting in a residual resistance that is superior as the fiber concentrations increases. The results also show that there is only one torsional rupture surface in the FRC rectangular beams, which is in a helical form, differently from what is observed in reinforced concrete. There is the possibility of using fibers to enhance torsional resistance in concrete elements, which may reduce the amount of conventional reinforcement.
