In the production of ceramic materials, we study the addition of biopolymers and tailings with characteristics like clays, aiming at achieving the various innovations, maintaining and/or improving the characteristics of the final product. In the search for a correct targeting of tailings, the potential of reuse is seen from the junction of residues and biopolymer compounds, such as lapidary powder and chitosan, which, among the biopolymers of great applicability, was chosen for use due to its wide availability and useful properties. In this context, 90 ceramic samples were produced using a chitosan solution 2% (w/w) and 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25% of lapidary powder. The raw materials were analyzed by Xray Fluorescence, confirming the chemical composition favorable to the use in ceramic materials. After the drying processes and burns at 850, 950 and 1100 ° C at 3h levels, the specimens were submitted to Water Absorption (%) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) tests, with low porosity in the samples and water absorption within the required by the standards of ABNT, demonstrating the technical feasibility of the use of lapidary powder and chitosan to produce ceramic material.
