専門看護の資格化がすすめられているが, 腎不全に関しては後れをとっている. そこで1) わが国の腎不全専門看護師と透析認定看護師, 2) わが国の腎不全以外の専門看護師, 3) わが国の透析以外の認定看護師, 4) 米国の腎不全専門看護婦, これら4資格について, (1) 必要性, (2) 制度の目的, (3) 定義, (4) 認定に必要な教育レベル, (5) 役割, (6) 認定機関, (7) 今後の課題について文献を通して比較検討を行った. さらに, 米国の腎不全専門看護婦の活動の実地調査を行ったので報告する.その結果, わが国の腎不全専門看護師と透析認定看護師について本研究の目的にあった内容が述べられている文献はなかった. 腎不全以外の専門看護師の役割は実践, 教育, 相談, 調整, 研究とされており, 認定看護師は実践, 指導相談とされていた. 米国の腎不全に関する専門看護師は, Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) とCertified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) の2資格に分かれていた. APNの役割は直接ケア, 調整相談, 教育, 研究, 管理とされており, CNNについては直接ケア, 調整, 相談, 教育, 研究とされていた.
