Le Liber Pontificalis signale, dans la longue liste des dons faits par l’empereur Constantin au martyrium de Saint-Pierre de Rome, un bain situe dans un quartier d’Antioche de Syrie. Comme pour les autres possessiones offertes a ce sanctuaire romain, et dont certaines etaient situees en Orient et en particulier a Antioche, cet etablissement public permettait a celui-ci d’en tirer un revenu (annuel) pour son fonctionnement. L’exploitation d’un bain public pour une eglise n’est pas un phenomene isole, puisque l’on retrouve d’autres exemples pour des eglises a Rome et dans sa region, en particulier pour la cathedrale constantinienne d’Ostie.
