International audienceBetween 1830 and 1848, bookshops were extremely concentrated within Paris and its various neighbourhoods. We will try to understand how bookshop’s owners experienced neighbourhoods as markets and places for socialisation. Parisian geography defined social and professional book retailing networks. Being active within one of them was compulsory to obtain a bookselling warrant and to reach information and money flows. The book retailing economy, far from being only run by solidarity, was a competitive and hierarchical one.L’hyper concentration des libraires au sein de la capitale sous la monarchie de Juillet donne à voir un espace économique centré autour du quartier, dont il s’agit d’interroger la réalité vécue par les acteurs. Parce qu’il est avant tout un espace d’interconnaissances, indispensables à l’établissement professionnel, le quartier est également le lieu de la circulation de l’information et du crédit. L’économie locale ainsi mise au jour n’est pour autant pas repliée sur elle-même et la géographie de l’endettement, loin de témoigner de relations purement solidaires, révèle un espace professionnel hiérarchisé
