Il s'agit ici de mettre en regard le roman de Thomas Hardy, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, et l'adaptation cinematographique de Roman Polanski, Tess, afin d'analyser l'impact de la theorie darwinienne sur la conception du monde telle qu'elle transparait dans le roman et le film, a travers des scenes-clefs comme l'episode de Talbothays ou de la fraise consommee hors saison. L'argumentation se conclut par l'analyse de la fonction symbolique de Stonehenge, tant dans le roman que dans le film, de sorte que le Darwinisme, et ce qu'on pourrait qualifier de Neo-Darwinisme chez Polanski, modifie profondement la perception de la nature feminine.
