Le roman d’Uwe Tellkamp, La Tour, paru en 2008 a ete immediatement un grand succes de librairie. Forte de cette constatation, la premiere chaine de television allemande a confie au realisateur Christian Schwochow et au scenariste Thomas Kirchner le soin de l’adapter pour une diffusion a l’occasion de la fete nationale, le 3 octobre 2012. Cette situation de production et de reception a determine des choix bien precis dans l’adaptation realisee : supprimer le journal tenu par Meno Rohde et qui structure le roman, un decoupage chronologique precis, le recentrage sur la relation pere-fils entre Richard et Christian Hoffmann. Le telefilm, par consequent, s’inscrit dans une demarche d’interpretation purement denotative qui fait de La Tour un film sur les dernieres annees de la RDA, comme une partie de la critique a aussi voulu lire le roman eponyme.
