International audienceFollowing the seminal work of Henry Jenkins and the reconsideration of fans as producers, fan studies have focused on the digital traces left by online contributors and on the creative practices of hardcore fans. However, the results of an ethnomethodological study of a daily digital comic strip show that many fans are so-called lurkers. Yet such fans should not be considered as either passive or alienated. For these reasons we suggest that fan studies, taking up Jenkins’ concept of spreadability, be expanded to include analysis and exploration of the dynamic circulation of audiences between information, communication and contributive practices.Dans la foulée des travaux fondateurs de Henry Jenkins et le souci de réhabiliter la figure du fan, les fan studies ont pu favoriser l’étude des traces produites par les pratiques contributives et créatives des hardcore fans. Or les résultats d’une étude ethnométhodologique portant sur un feuilleton de bande dessinée numérique suggèrent que bien des fans ne se livrent pas à de telles pratiques, sans pour autant pouvoir être jugés comme passifs ou aliénés. C’est pourquoi nous proposons d’ouvrir les études de fans sur l’analyse et la compréhension des dynamiques de circulation des publics entre pratiques informationnelles, communicationnelles et contributives
