International audienceThe author points out that if we want to improve the quality of educational mass-produced medias we must not forget that the chief agent in learning is the learner himself. Then the new educational technologies are to be conceived, not as means of transmitting information, but a new system of representation.Such a new view modifies mainly the notion of interaction. The important thing is intentional interaction as an equivalent to the reading contract in other traditional medias. This feedback will allow students to respond to messages, and therefore to find their own individual ways of learning.If the quality is not satisfactory, it means that the new educational technology (NET) have only been reproducing the most oldfashioned models. The author explores the causes, insisting on the fact that the new rationalized and standardized products have not considered the importance of self-learning by feedback and that NET are using much too often the old paradigm of teaching as a questionanswer system between teachers ans students.That's why we are still in the pre-historical period of educational communication through medias, since we do not know anything yet about mental technologies, about those cognizing technologies, which start competing with traditional teaching. The NET could bring their enormous potential in the development of those educational concepts which would consider the learner as a responsible and self-teaching person. Even in a prospect of productivity, such a conception would be necessary.L'auteur rappelle que si l'on veut améliorer la qualité des produits médiatés (industrialisés) de formation, il faut prendre en compte que l'agent essentiel de l'apprentissage est l'apprenant. Les nouvelles technologies éducatives sont alors à concevoir non tant comme des véhicules d'information que comme des systèmes de représentation.Une telle perspective modifie notamment la conception de l'interactivité : il s'agit d'insister sur l'interactivité intentionnelle, équivalent du contrat de lecture des médias non interactifs. C'est elle qui va permettre à l'utilisateur de déployer une activité au service de l'interprétation du message et de construire ainsi son parcours d'apprentissage.Si la qualité n'est pas au rendez-vous, c'est que les NTE n'ont réactivé que les modèles pédagogiques les plus dépassés. L'auteur en explore les raisons, insistant sur le fait que la rationalisation et la standardisation n'ont pas pris en compte l'autodidaxie, et que les NTE fonctionnent trop souvent sur l'ancien paradigme de l'enseignement comme « dialogue maître/élève ».Aussi n'en est-on qu'à la préhistoire de la communication éducative médiatisée, puisqu'on ne sait encore rien des technologies du mental, de ces technologies cognitives qui viennent concurrencer l'éducation sur son terrain. Les NTE pourraient être un énorme potentiel pour développer des produits conformes à une conception qui prendrait l'apprenant pour une personne responsable et autoapprenante. Même une perspective productiviste a besoin d'une telle conception
