In 1726, the French pilgrim Guillaume Manier travelled to Compostela. After visiting the city, he went on travelling around Spain and visited Oviedo, Valladolid, Madrid, and Pamplona, among other cities. In 1736, he wrote a story in which he described this experience. The title of the story is Voyage d’Espangne. In the present study, we show that the vision of Spain reflected by Manier is very complete, and of high richness and variety. Manier does not only deal with aspects related to the worship of Santiago, he also uncovers himself as an unprejudiced narrator writing about Spain in an honest, and curious way.
