The presentation of two research projects by the Pacivur (American Programme for Training and Research on Vulnerability and Risks in Urban Environments) team from Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD), led between 1999 and 2004 in Quito, and between 2010 and 2011 in Lima, shows how the involvement can come in a variety of forms, highly complementary to each other. It is a question of conducting scientific research to operational aim, of facilitating the access to data, or of restoring the knowledge created in the framework of a research project.La présentation de deux projets de recherches de l'équipe Pacivur (Programme andin de formation et de recherche sur la vulnérabilité et les risques en milieu urbain) de l'Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD), menés respectivement entre 1999 et 2004 à Quito et entre 2010 et 2011 à Lima, montre comment la participation peut se décliner sous de nombreuses formes fortement complémentaires les unes des autres. Il s'agit aussi bien de réaliser une recherche scientifique à visée opérationnelle, que de faciliter l'accès aux données, ou encore de restituer au mieux et au plus grand nombre des connaissances créées dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche
