En mars 1995, Lars von Trier et Thomas Vinterberg creent le collectif Dogme 95 auquel se rallieront deux autres cineastes danois, Soren Kragh-Jacobsen et Kristian Levring. Envisage comme un « acte de sauvetage », le mouvement entend, selon ses propres termes « s’opposer a “certaines tendances” du cinema actuel ». Si la majorite des commentateurs francais l’ont considere comme un canular sans consequences, voire comme un simple coup marketing, il apparait en realite comme un phenomene complexe aux motivations et enjeux multiples et a l’impact certain. Suivant une demarche beaucoup plus reflechie qu’il n’y parait, Dogme 95 a su affirmer une veritable position distinctive dans le champ cinematographique. Cet article revient sur la genese et le developpement du Dogme, avant d’analyser son positionnement theorique a partir de son double texte fondateur (le manifeste Dogme 95 et le « Vœu de Chastete »).
