New tricyclic fused pyrazolines 8-21 have been synthesized by the reaction of 3arylidenechromanones 1-4 and 3-arylidene-1-thiochromanones 5-7 with hydrazine in hot acetic acid or propionic acid solution. Structures of all new compounds have been elucidated by microanalyses, Hand C-NMR, IR and mass spectroscopic measurements.
