Stuart Hall has been one of the main figures in the development of cultural studies. This paper examines the cultural and communicational theory of Stuart Hall. Firstly, the article provides an overview of the basis of his theoretical framework. Then, the communication process is described using his well known encoding-decoding model. The paper tries to provide a brief explanation of how culture and subculture concepts are linked with the hegemony notion and the description of the communication process. Finally, the article analyses the impact of Stuart Hall theory in Cultural Studies and the Sociology of Culture.
