In New Spain in the late xviiith century, the cult of the Blessed Sacrament is renewed with the creation of the congregations of coachmen for the viaticum, and of the alumbrado of the Blessed Sacrament. Founded in the middle of the reform of the confraternities in the Hispanic world, they show us the contradictions of the projects of the ilustrados , who recognize the value of this fundamental devotion to Catholicism. They also let us realize the growing importance of the visibility of social hierarchies for both, cofrades and reformers.
